The property is set among woods, vineyards and olive groves with fields of lavender and sunflowers all around. From Sabatier, walk for miles, past the monastery, by the river and into the hills, seeing nobody but the natural beauty and flora and fauna of the area: take a picnic and laze by the river with a good book from David’s library.
Tornac is situated a few kms from Anduze, the gateway to the Cévennes; this is a thriving town with restaurants, two supermarkets, cafes; an excellent market on Thursdays, a flea market on Sundays and a steam railway that will take you up to St. Jean du Gard. Hire a bike in town or follow in the footsteps of Robert Louis Stevenson into the Cévennes National Park on a donkey. Visit the giant grottos, the Bambouseraie park (the biggest collection of bamboos in Europe) or just chill at one of the local cafes and see the world go by.
Nîmes, Montpellier, Avignon, Arles and the Pont du Gard are within easy reach.
Visit: Uzès on a Saturday for its renowned market: Mount Aigoual and its observatory: include in your itinerary Sommieres, Sauve and Quissac; the Camargue with the wild horses and flamingos: visit the Mediterranean coast, beaches and small fishing ports; canoeing, rafting, horse riding are available locally.
